Motif breast pumps at a glance
Motif Medical makes two kinds of pump: the Luna, a double electric tabletop pump with tubing and bottles, and the Aura line of wearables that sit in your bra. We carry three through insurance: the plug-in Motif Luna, the Motif Luna with Battery and the Motif Aura Glow wearable, with a nightlight in each cup. We also carry Motif’s C-Section Dressing System.
Which Motif breast pump is right for you?
Pick by where you’ll pump most, and whether you want tubes and bottles or a pump in your bra.
- Motif Luna
- A strong, quiet main pump for home or a desk near an outlet. Massage and Expression modes, 12 suction levels with the speed set separately, a three-level night light and a 30 minute auto off. It plugs into the wall and has no battery. In a third-party study, 5 out of 6 moms told Motif the Luna got them more milk in less time than other leading brands.
- Motif Luna with Battery
- The same pump as the plug-in Luna with a built-in battery, which Motif says is the only difference. Motif rates it for up to 4+ hours a charge, for moms who pump at work or away from an outlet.
- Motif Aura Glow
- Motif’s newest wearable, cordless and hands-free in your bra. A nightlight in each 6 oz container shows your milk level in the dark, and two timed modes designed by lactation professionals run the whole session for you.

Questions moms ask about Motif breast pumps
Is a Motif breast pump covered by insurance?
On most plans, yes. Some plans cover the Motif Luna, Luna with Battery or Aura Glow in full, others add an upgrade fee, and not every plan offers every model. Start your order and pick your state and plan to see each pump you qualify for, with any fee, before you pay anything.
Which pumps have no upgrade fee on most plans?
The Zomee Z2, Zomee Fit, Zomee W1, Lansinoh DiscreetDuo Flow and Ameda Mya Joy Basic are covered in full on the plans we work with. If your plan adds a fee for a Motif, the Zomee Z2 is a tabletop double pump like the Luna, and the Zomee Fit and Zomee W1 sit in your bra like the Aura Glow.
Which Motif breast pump is best?
The one that fits where you’ll pump. For home or a desk near an outlet, the plug-in Motif Luna is the simplest pick. If you pump away from an outlet, the Motif Luna with Battery is the same pump with a battery. For hands-free pumping, the Motif Aura Glow sits in your bra and lights up your milk at night. Motif says most moms do best pairing a wearable with a main pump like the Luna.
What’s the difference between the Motif Luna and Luna with Battery?
Only the battery, Motif says: both have the same motor, modes and parts. The Luna with Battery charges fully in about 2.5 hours and its battery has a 1-year warranty. The plug-in Luna runs from its wall adapter, which works on 100 to 240 volts.
Do you still carry the original Motif Aura?
No. Motif no longer lists the original Aura among its pumps, so we carry the Motif Aura Glow, Motif’s newest wearable. It sits in your bra like the Aura, adds a nightlight in each milk container and two timed modes, General Pumping and Cluster Feeding, on top of Massage and Expression. The Glow runs on its own buttons: Motif says its app pairs only with the original Aura.
How strong is Motif suction?
Up to 280 mmHg on all three Motif pumps we carry, Motif says. For comparison, Spectra rates the S1 and S2 at 270 mmHg. Motif calls the Luna hospital strength and says “hospital grade” means a multi-user pump, which the Luna is not.
How long does a Motif battery last?
Up to 4+ hours on the Motif Luna with Battery, or about twelve 20 minute sessions, by Motif’s current rating; its manual and earlier listings say 2+ hours, so your pump’s version may vary. The Aura Glow runs about 90 minutes per charge over USB-C and won’t pump while it charges. The plug-in Luna has no battery.
Are Motif breast pumps quiet?
Motif rates both Lunas under 40 dB on its product page, though the Luna manual says under 45 dB. The Aura Glow is under 45 dB, and Motif says it won’t wake your baby.
What warranty do Motif pumps have?
Motif covers the motor for 2 years and parts for 90 days on the Luna, Luna with Battery and Aura Glow, plus 1 year on the internal battery of the Luna with Battery and Aura Glow. Every Motif we carry is a closed system, so milk stays out of the motor.
Do I need a prescription to get a Motif through insurance?
Yes, insurance requires one, but you don’t need it in hand to order. Give us your doctor’s details and we request the prescription for you. Most plans let your pump ship about 30 days before your due date.
Get your Motif through insurance
Tell us your plan and your doctor, and we do the rest: the coverage check, the prescription and the claim. You see any upgrade fee before you order, and if your plan covers a different pump than the one you picked, we tell you before anything ships.
