Elvie breast pumps at a glance
Both Elvie breast pumps we carry are hands-free. The Elvie Stride puts light cups in your bra and the motor in a small hub on your waistband, for stronger suction. The Elvie Pump keeps everything in your bra, with no tubes or cords. We carry both through insurance. The grid also shows the Elvie Curve, Elvie Catch and Elvie Trainer, a pelvic floor trainer; they aren’t in the comparison below.
Which Elvie breast pump is right for you?
Pick by what matters more to you: the strongest suction, or nothing outside your bra.
- Elvie Stride
- Light cups sit in your bra and thin tubes run to a small hub clipped to your waistband. Keeping the motor in the hub lets it reach up to 300 mmHg, a level Elvie calls hospital-grade, with cups under 5 oz each. Run it from the hub buttons or the Pump with Elvie app. This is the original Stride, not the Stride 2.
- Elvie Pump
- Each side is one self-contained pump, hub and 5 oz bottle, that sits fully in your bra with no tubes, cords or waist hub. Elvie rates it at 32 dB, quiet enough for a video call, and sensors switch modes at let-down and pause a side when its bottle is full. The app shows your milk volume live.

Questions moms ask about Elvie breast pumps
Is an Elvie breast pump covered by insurance?
On most plans, yes. Some plans cover the Elvie Stride in full and others add an upgrade fee. Most plans cover the Elvie Pump with an upgrade fee. Not every plan offers every model. Start your order and pick your state and plan to see each pump you qualify for, with any fee, before you pay anything.
Which pumps have no upgrade fee on most plans?
The Zomee Z2, Zomee Fit, Zomee W1, Lansinoh DiscreetDuo Flow and Ameda Mya Joy Basic are covered in full on the plans we work with. If you want a hands-free pump with no fee, the Zomee Fit, Zomee W1 and Lansinoh DiscreetDuo Flow all sit in your bra like an Elvie.
Which Elvie breast pump is best?
The one that fits how you pump. If you pump every day or exclusively and want strong suction, the Elvie Stride reaches up to 300 mmHg. If you pump at work or on calls and want nothing outside your bra, the Elvie Pump is fully in-bra and rated at 32 dB. Your plan’s price for each can differ, so it helps to check before you choose.
What’s the difference between the Elvie Stride and Elvie Pump?
The Stride keeps its motor in a small hub on your waistband, with thin tubes up to light cups in your bra. That buys it a higher maximum, up to 300 mmHg, and 10 levels in each of its two modes. The Elvie Pump has no tubes or hub: each side is one pump with its bottle built in, 7 levels per mode, sensors that switch modes and pause when full, and live milk tracking in the app.
How strong is Elvie suction?
Up to 300 mmHg on the Elvie Stride, Elvie says, which calls that level hospital-grade. Elvie’s manual lists 40 to 220 mmHg for the Elvie Pump, and Elvie doesn’t call the Pump hospital grade. For comparison, Spectra rates the S1 and S2 at 270 mmHg. Compare maximums only; a higher number does not mean a pump empties better.
How long does an Elvie battery last?
About five 30 minute sessions per charge on the Elvie Stride, Elvie’s manual says, and Elvie’s site says nearly three hours depending on your settings. It charges in about 2 hours. The Elvie Pump runs 5 to 6 sessions, about 2.5 hours, from a charge of about 2 hours, Elvie says. Neither pumps while it charges.
Are Elvie breast pumps quiet?
Elvie rates the Elvie Pump at 32 dB, measured in maximum expression mode, and calls it its quietest slimline pump. For the Elvie Stride, elvie.com says “ultra-quiet” with no number; Elvie’s Amazon page lists 36 dB.
What warranty do Elvie pumps have?
Elvie covers the Elvie Stride hub for 2 years and its other parts for 90 days. For the Elvie Pump, Elvie’s manual gives 2 years on the hub and 90 days on the washable parts, while Elvie’s site FAQ says 1 year on the hub. Both are closed systems, Elvie says.
Is this the Elvie Stride 2?
No, we carry the original Elvie Stride. It comes with two 24 mm breast shields; 21 and 28 mm shields and 15, 17 and 19 mm nipple cushions are sold separately. The Elvie Stride page has Elvie’s sizing chart.
Do I need a prescription to get an Elvie through insurance?
Yes, insurance requires one, but you don’t need it in hand to order. Give us your doctor’s details and we request the prescription for you. Most plans let your pump ship about 30 days before your due date.
