A strong, quiet main pump for home and your desk
The Motif Luna breast pump is a plug-in double electric pump with up to 280 mmHg of suction, and you set the suction and the speed separately to suit your body.
In a third-party study, 5 out of 6 moms told Motif the Luna got them more milk in less time than other leading brands.

Is the Luna right for you?
Best for
- Your main daily pump, including exclusive pumping
- Pumping at home or at a desk with an outlet nearby

Suction and speed, each on its own button
Motif lets you set suction and speed apart in both modes, so you can settle on what feels right for you.
- Starts in Massage
- Faster and gentler to bring on let-down, then it switches to Expression by itself.
- Expression mode
- Slower, stronger pulls once milk is flowing.
- Seven Expression speeds
- 30 to 54 cycles a minute, including two newer settings, 50 and 54.

Questions moms ask about the Motif Luna
How much does the Motif Luna Breast Pump cost with insurance?
With insurance, the Motif Luna Breast Pump costs $0 to $95, depending on your plan. Many plans cover it in full; others add an upgrade fee. Check your coverage and we’ll tell you your exact cost before you order.
How strong is the Motif Luna suction?
Up to 280 mmHg across 12 suction levels, Motif says, with the speed set separately in each mode. The Spectra S1 and S2 list 270 mmHg, so the Luna’s maximum is slightly higher on paper.
Is the Motif Luna hospital grade?
Motif calls the Luna hospital strength, up to 280 mmHg, and says “hospital grade” means a multi-user pump, which the Luna is not. We use the same yardstick across pumps: maximum suction in mmHg, where the Luna lists 280 and the Spectra S1 and S2 list 270.
How do I put the Motif Luna together?
1. Snap the diaphragm into its bottom and the diaphragm top over it. 2. Push the valve onto the underside of the shield. 3. Twist the diaphragm assembly onto the shield and screw the bottle on below. 4. Connect the tubing from the diaphragm assembly to the pump, capping one air port if you pump one side. 5. Attach the power adapter and plug it in. Motif’s manual has pictures.
How do I clean the Motif Luna?
Take apart the valves, shields, bottles, nipples, disks and covers, rinse them in cool water, then wash each with a soft brush and soap or soak them 5 minutes in warm soapy water. Air dry without patting, and wipe the motor with a dry towel. Don’t wash the tubing or the diaphragms. Motif says to sterilize before first use and then daily by boiling 5 minutes, and doesn’t recommend the dishwasher because parts may warp.
What parts does the Motif Luna use, and where do I buy replacements?
Motif says to replace valves every 1 to 3 months, diaphragm membranes every 3 to 6 months, shields every 6 months, and tubing as soon as it is stretched or gets wet. Motif sells replacement parts at motifmedical.com/replacement-supplies, including a resupply kit, or you can call Motif at (844) 272-8390.
Which breast shield size fits the Motif Luna?
Measure the base of your nipple in millimeters and add 4 mm, Motif says. The box has 21 and 24 mm shields, and Motif sells 16, 19, 28 and 32 mm separately. Call us if you’re between sizes.
Does the Motif Luna have a battery?
No. This plug-in Luna runs on its wall adapter, which works on 100 to 240 volts. The Motif Luna with Battery adds a built-in rechargeable battery and is otherwise the same pump, with the same motor and modes.
How loud is the Motif Luna?
Under 40 dB, Motif says on its product page. Its manual lists under 45 dB, so it is a quiet pump either way.
Can I lie back while I use the Motif Luna?
Motif’s manual says to pump with the pump in an upright position, so sit up rather than lying flat.
Can I pump hands-free with the Motif Luna?
Yes, with a hands-free pumping bra holding the shields. It isn’t an in-bra wearable, so the tubing still runs to the pump. For in-bra pumping, look at the Motif Aura Glow.
What is the difference between the Motif Luna and the Spectra S2?
The Luna lists 280 mmHg and 12 levels with separate speed control. The Spectra S2 Plus lists 270 mmHg and is also plug-in. Both are closed-system double pumps.
Does insurance cover the Motif Luna?
Yes. Most health plans must cover a breast pump under federal rules, and we check your plan, get the prescription from your doctor, and ship the Motif Luna to your door. Start your order through insurance, and we will tell you before anything ships if your plan covers a different pump.
